Brief descriptions of volunteer options during the New World Festival

Publicity: Posters need to be put up in surrounding areas about two weeks in advance.

House – Cleaners: Clean and prepare house (1) for performers (This is a pre-festival responsibility)

Set-Up:  Be there, ready to get the show on the road at 8 am Sunday, August 31.  Site Director will be directing the set up.  Festival entry passes will be provided prior to the opening of the festival.

Ticket Sales:  Sell and distribute festival and food tickets to festival attendees.  Be sure you see a festival bracelet before selling food tickets to an individual.  Ticket coordinator will provide on-site instruction.

Sales at the Festival Store:  CD’s of the performers and other goodies. Store manager will provide on-site instruction.

Entrance at the Bridge: Greet people and welcome them to the festival. Direct folks who haven’t bought tickets to the Festival toward the Ticket Tents at either end of the area.  A frequently asked question: Why can’t they just come in and check out everything before buying the tickets?  Answer: This event is in its 16th year, it is well publicized and it is a fund raiser. Keep on your toes, folks.  Listen for emergency vehicles and warn everyone to stand clear when they pass through.   Please keep an eye out for cars that park to let off vendors or artisans.  As soon as those vehicles are unpacked, they need to parked at the Ice rink/skate park near the bridge or elsewhere, and NOT in the Laundry Mat Parking Lot.!

Main Tent Security: The “heavy” job.  Watch for tickets/bracelets displayed prominently.  Alcohol cannot leave the tent area – IT’S THE LAW!  (You will be advised of the law prior to taking your shift.  Be sweet, but firm.  Anyone who wishes to come in for food/drink, must be properly “braceleted.”

Refreshments: Soft drinks, water, and beer.  The prices in tickets will be posted.  Sorry fans, you may not drink beer/wine while you’re on duty serving. A mandatory workshop regarding STATE REGS will be conducted at the home of Lee & Anna Sease.  Brunch will be provided.

Main Tent: Table Watchers and Clearers: Watch for under-aged alcohol consumption and if suspicious, inform staff (Guidelines will be provided.) Keep area clean and orderly as possible.  It is important to make sure recycling and rubbish are kept separate.

Rubbish Removal:  This is a GREEN effort.  Circulate through the venues and remove the trash at least once every hour, and more often during the “supper hour.”  Returnables, recycleables, and rubbish NEED to be separated.

Entryways the Sessions Tent, Bethany Church & Artisans in the Gallery/Performer Instruments:  Easy and fun to check the folks who go into these events.  Ask if you don’t see a bracelet. Show the way to the Ticket Tents to anyone without a bracelet.  Lots of smiles and nods.    The Hall above the Gallery is the place the performers may store their instruments. They will bring in or take out instruments. This area is open to Festival Performers only!

Family Tent:  The coordinators of this tent are Marie Dunwoody and Janet Poeton.  Check with one of these volunteers as to what they expect of you at the beginning and at the end of your shift.

Doors to the Main Stage in Chandler Music Hall:   This job is fun and easy.  The Door Keeper watches for the bracelets that indicate that the audience members have paid to get in.  After all, this is a fund raiser!  Then, just remind folks to close the doors (of course) and that food and drink are not allowed in the Hall.  There are entries to the Balcony and you need to watch  the stairs, also.  One of the nice things about this position, is that you can go into the Hall and enjoy the performances, too.   ***** For the “9 pm till End” shift,  the Hall will empty after the performance. Please “tip up” all  the seats and  pick up any trash that crept in.  This shift should be finished by 11:30 pm. So, it is shorter than the others. And then you're free to go over to the Main Tent and dance until the place shuts down.

Clean-up:  Dance till you almost drop, then help with clearing all the tables, chairs, and staging. Site Coordinator will direct activity.   Thanks!

Monday Morning Cleanup:  Meet at an appointed early hour and take direction.  Some heavy lifting.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS FESTIVAL WHAT IT HAS BECOME!!!!!
